I’ve always had a soft spot in my heart for vertical connecting scripts. They are one of the more challenging things in type design to get right. This design began as a sketch for a logo exploration. I played around with the connections between the the h, k, n, and m, and while I didn’t think much of it at first, the odd way that the letterforms connected with caught my attention. I never thought it was going to be the most legible of designs, but something about it compelled me to finish it. So being me I decided to finish it in 8 weights.
One thing that has always bothered me about script type designs is the inability to set the design in all caps. All of those flourishes and connecting strokes work well with the lowercase but get in the way when all caps are set. So I decided to include a set of plain caps that would allow the design to set well in all caps. Maybe this is the first script typeface to include such a feature! Maybe not, but I’m really excited about the results. There are lots of OpenType Stylistic Sets that give the design some variation, and Contextual Alternates modify the beginning and ending letterforms.
