What formats are Terminal Design fonts available in?
OpenType®
What is OpenType®?
OpenType® is a cross-platform font file format developed jointly by Adobe and Microsoft. The two main benefits of the OpenType format are its cross-platform compatibility (the same font file works on Macintosh and Windows computers), and its ability to support widely expanded character sets and layout features, which provide richer linguistic support and advanced typographic control.
Learn more about OpenType.
OpenType comes in two “Flavors” Postscript (.otf) and TrueType (.ttf).
CFF Postscript (.otf)
OpenType fonts that are based on PostScript outlines have the suffix .otf and are cross-platform compatible with Macintosh and Windows. The same font file will work on both Macintosh and Windows provided the proper utilities are installed on your system.
See: System Requirements
TrueType (.ttf)
OpenType fonts that contain TrueType outlines such as Terminal Design’s ClearviewHwy fonts have the suffix .ttf. This font format is supported natively by Macintosh OSX and Windows operating systems. This format is cross-platform compatible, The same font file will work on both Macintosh OSX and Windows.

Language Support
All of our fonts contain extensive latin glyphs sets that support all of the major and most of the minor European languages that use the latin script. Some of our fonts also support Cyrillic. There are some slight variations between some of our font families, usually in the number and type of superior and inferior characters they contain.
ClearviewHwy is not quite as robust in its glyph complement as the rest of our fonts, although its extension into Greek, Cyrillic, Vietnamese is complete and available for license. Contact Us for more information.
A complete glyph set is shown for each font.
What are the licensing terms for Terminal Design fonts?
There are two basic End User License agreements that govern the use of our font software.
Terminal Design End User License Agreement (EULA)
This EULA covers all our fonts EXCEPT ClearviewHwy.
This font license requires that designers observe some basic safety precautions when publishing Flash files.
- Text in Flash files must be static (not dynamic), the files must embed only a subset of the character set, and the “Protect from Import” option must be enabled when the files are generated.
- When using sIFR (Scalable Inman Flash Replacement) configure sIFR’s customize_me.as file in two ways to prevent unauthorized users from accessing the system: first, set the allowedDomains array to include only the domain of your website (instead of “*”), and then set allowlocal to “false” before publishing the .swf to the web.
- Under no circumstances can any HTML/browser embedding technologies be used under our standard license agreement. Including but not limited to @font-face or hosting the font software anywhere on a web server where it can be linked to and downloaded.
ClearviewHwy End User License Agreement (EULA)
The EULA covers ONLY ClearviewHwy.
ClearviewHwy may not be used to publish Flash files or with sIFR or similar technologies.
